New Year, New Shed: Organize Your Outdoor Shed for 2024

A new year always brings a fresh start and what better way to kick off 2024 than by decluttering and organizing one of the most overlooked spaces in our homes – the outdoor shed. Often, sheds become the place to store tools, seasonal items, and other items that become forgotten treasures.

Here are practical tips to help you declutter and reorganize your shed, creating a clean and efficient space for the year ahead.

Set a goal

What do you want your shed to be? Is it going to be purely for storage? Maybe you want to transform into a personal gym or home office. Whatever it is, keep this goal in mind as you transform your shed into the space you want and need. You can also divide the space inside and use most of the shed as a home office, for example, while still using the rest of the space as a storage area.

Take everything out

Half-hearted organizing will only get you half-hearted results. To fully organize your shed, remove everything inside to get a clear picture of what’s inside. Removing everything allows you to assess each item, sort through them, and start with a blank canvas. It will take time to do this, but it will be well worth it!

Sort and categorize

Now that you know what’s inside, organize your items into categories. Separate your things into different piles, such as tools, crafting supplies, seasonal clothes, and items to donate or discard. Doing this streamlines the decluttering process and helps you decide what to keep. Once you’ve determined what to keep and what to discard, you can begin organizing your belongings.

Use storage solutions

Lastly, efficient storage solutions are vital to maintaining an organized shed. Invest in shelving units, clear storage boxes, pegboards, and hooks to maximize space. Labeled bins help keep items visible and accessible. When you’ve sorted and categorized your items, use these storage solutions to keep your shed clean and organized.

The new year is a great time to start anew and get organized! We hope this quick guide helps you start on your road to a clutter-free and organized shed.
