How To Extend the Life of Your Shed in 4 Easy Steps

If you’re the proud owner of a Heritage shed, then you know that you have something special. These sheds are built to last, and with just a little bit of care and maintenance, they can last for many, many years!

In this feature, we will discuss four easy steps that you can take to help your shed last longer.

Follow these tips and you’ll be able to protect your investment and keep your shed looking great for years to come!

(By the way, even if you don’t own a Heritage shed yet, these tips will definitely come in handy! Ready to get started on your spring cleaning? How about using our convenient Shed Builder to see the possibilities! 🤩)

1. Maintain, Don’t Wait!

First and foremost, it’s important to regularly check for any signs of wear and tear. If you see any cracks or damage, it’s important to repair them as soon as possible.

This will help to prevent further damage from occurring and will also extend the life of your shed.

Don’t skip this step! While regular maintenance can feel like a hassle, it is significantly less expensive to address minor issues when they arise than to wait until they become a major deal.

2. Keep it Clean

Another important tip is to make sure that your shed is always clean and free of debris.

Leaving leaves and other garden waste around your shed can lead to moisture damage and rot.

Take the time to sweep up any debris around your shed regularly, and you’ll go a long way towards keeping a long-lasting, beautiful shed.

3. Choose the Right Location

Third, remember that where you place your shed can have a big impact on how long it lasts.

Be sure to choose a level spot for your shed, and avoid putting it in an area that’s prone to flooding or excessive moisture.

Also, make sure that there’s plenty of airflow around your shed to help prevent condensation and mold.

4. Take Pride and Keep it Organized!

It might sound obvious, but one of the best ways to extend the life of your shed is to give it a life in the first place! Don’t just “stuff” things into it to clear out the clutter.

Instead, take your time and think about how to best organize and use the space. Imagine you were the owner of a beautiful ’67 Stringray Corvette (sorry Ford fans!). You would treat it differently than “any other car,” right?

Several ways to assist with this are to add Shelving (Heritage option), Workbench (Heritage option), use totes, peg boards, and organizational metal mounts for shovels, racks, etc.

If you think differently about your shed, keep it organized, and take pride in the way it looks, it will last longer and do a great job for you in the process.

By following these simple tips, you can help your shed last for many years to come! Do you have any other tips that you’ve found helpful? We’d love to hear from you!
